Villa Serbelloni: 4 centuries of beauty
Villa Serbelloni was commissioned and built in the 17th century, as a summer residence for the aristocratic Serbelloni family. But it is in the 18th century that the villa became an iconic destination, thanks to the creative and meticulous work of Count Clerici, who blessed the villa with its signature Italian-style gardens, fountains and statues. In 1847, the villa was purchased by the Marquis Vincenzo Vistarino, who added a magnificent collection of artworks, furniture and ornaments. At the same time, the Marquis expanded the gardens around the villa, adding a beautiful rose garden, a Japanese-style bridge and a stunning grotto. The villa was passed on to the Italian State in 1908, and since then it has become one of the most visited destinations in all the peninsula.
Countless personalities have been enchanted by its charm, from writers such as Goethe and Stendhal to celebrities such as Madonna and David Beckham. Villa Serbelloni is the perfect amalgamation of history and beauty, a timeless destination that never ceases to amaze its visitors, a true reminder of the elegance and sophistication of the Italian Riviera.
Did you know? On Lake Como, the Italian vibes are often seasoned with a little touch of America. Who owns Villa Serbelloni? None other than the Rockefeller Foundation!
